We are working towards a Wilder Derby
Derby is a vibrant city, birthplace of the Industrial Revolution and a leader in innovation. Now is the time for us to lead the way again as we grow greener, and become a Wilder Derby for all. Imagine a city full of nature, wild parks alive with birdsong, hedgehogs and wildflowers, green roofs and walls on every street. This is the vision we see for the future of Derby.
Nature is vital to our wellbeing. Being able to access nature on our doorstep hugely benefits our mental and physical health, both adults and children alike. We want to see a place where people and nature thrive together.
We've been working hard to secure a wilder, greener city for all those who live there and visit. The rewilding of Allestree Park is central to this, as is our new nature reserve Derwent Meadows. We have some great plans in motion to make our city even wilder, and each will help to connect green spaces across the whole city, and help the Council meet its carbon goal.

What we want to see in Derby
1. Championing the rewilding of Derby
Our city has enormous potential to become the wildest, greenest city in England. We have hundreds of much-loved green spaces. Let's make sure they are bursting with nature. Starting with creating the UK’s largest urban rewilding project at Allestree Park then developing wild initiatives right across the city such as city centre wetlands.
2. Backing a Natural Health Service
We're working on innovative projects such as GPs prescribing time in nature and natural wellbeing sessions for school children, hospital patients, refugees and victims of domestic violence.
3. Tackling the nature and climate crisis with natural solutions right here in Derby
By rewilding our city we can draw down carbon, reduce flooding and lower air pollution.
4. Making sure building developments are good
Let's make sure all developments create new opportunities for nature and people. We can have natural play areas, orchards and allotments in every community, as well as green roofs and bee bust stops on every street.
