Highlights for the last few days at Carr Vale are:
On 5th 127 Canada Geese, 31 Gadwall, nine Teal, three Snipe (still on 9th), Common Sandpiper (still on 9th), two Water Rails (daily since with three on 9th) and Lesser Whitethroat. On 6th 99 Mallard, 44 Gadwall, 14 Teal (still eight on 9th), Red Kite at 0855, female Pheasant with new brood of two and 70 Linnets. On 7th 130 Canada Geese, adult Common Gull and a Peregrine whilst on 8th six Cormorants, a Ringed Plover briefly, still 48 Swifts and three distant Hobbies. On 9th bird of the day was another juvenile Marsh Harrier seen briefly at 1110 before it flew over the ridge to the west of us. Also a Green Sandpiper dropped in but only stayed half an hour before it flew off north but otherwise fairly quiet.
