On a bright and sunny morning with very little wind and a starting temperature of 18 rising to 27 degrees by the end of my visit.
Phase 2
There were still a few birds sitting on nests with 2 Mute Swan, 2 Coots and 1 Great Crested Grebe nests noted.
Others had broods; Coot with 3 advanced youngsters, and another with 3 very young chicks. Mallard with 5 young and a pair of Canada Geese with 1 chick sighted.
Water foul numbers quite low: 3 Tufted, 19 Coot, 2 Greylag, 15 Gadwall, 12 Great Crested Grebe, 5 Little Egret, 5 Grey Heron, 9 Lapwing, 2 Common Tern, 2 Black headed Gull, 4 Teal.
Other birds sighted or heard: 5 Chetti Warbler, 1 Sedge Warbler, 12 Reed Warbler, 4 Reed Bunting, 2 Chiffchaff, 3 Buzzards, Blackbird and Wood Pidgeon.
Butterflies also starting to appear; 7 Common Blue 2 Small Blue, 2 Speckled Wood and 8 Meadow Brown.
Banded Demoiselle were in abundance with the odd Demoiselle Agrion. Also an abundance of Common Blue and Blue-tailed Damselfly were pairing up. Skimmers were starting to appear with 6 Black-tailed Skimmers noted.
Phase 1:
In the heat of the day again an abundance of Banded Demoiselle & Damselfly down the tracks and over the water. 4 Mute Swans, 4 Great Crested Grebe, 12 Coots, 3 Grey Herons, 1 Little Egret and 2 Gadwall on the water. Great Tits, Blue Tits, Chiffchaff, Reed Warblers and a Kingfisher and a Chetti were all heard. 1 Buzzard disturbed.
