Bat trapping on the reserve on the night of Friday 1st June with the Derbyshire Bat Group as part of the UK-wide Nathusius Project yielded 4 bat species - Common and Soprano Pipistrelles, Daubenton’s Bat and, excitingly, a single female Nathusius Pipistrelle. In addition, Noctule bats were recorded on the bat detectors. Large plumes of insects were spiralling high into the sky, and were even visible on a thermal imager. Tawny owl was calling, and, something i was not previously aware of, Reed, Sedge and Cetti’s Warbler were all singing into the early hours of the morning!
