Upstairs at Aqueduct Cottage with Steph Jansen
About the event
Steph Jansen's felt 'paintings' are made with dynamic, painterly layers of fibres, threads and fabrics. They are inspired by her fascination with tucked away, often ancient, paths in the landscape, as well as the richness of her materials. Steph's work was longlisted for the VAO 2023 UK & International Emerging Artist Awards, shortlisted for the Harley Open 24, and is in private collections in the UK and US. She has recently become a member of the Peak District Artisans.
Steph will be showing a selection of her landscapes, cards and prints, as well as demonstrating how she makes her work, during her 4-day residency at Aqueduct Cottage. 15% of sales from her event will be donated to Derbyshire Wildlife Trust.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I regularly hear that people feel drawn into my landscapes, often taking them for paintings at first glance. Yet my work is created entirely from natural fibres, threads, and fabrics, felted together with soapy water and friction.
I create striking contrasts, blending vivid bursts of colour and form with subtle, earthy tones and delicate details. I aim to capture fleeting moments while honouring the enduring stories woven into our landscapes, the whispers of past lives beneath our feet.
I love that my art also invites tactile exploration, encouraging fingertips to trace paths along its surface, forging connections beyond sight alone.
