Act to put nature and climate at the heart of economic recovery.
Can you believe it’s a year ago that 12,000 people travelled to Westminster to talk to MPs about the nature and climate emergency! Derbyshire Wildlife Trust joined them and the atmosphere at the ‘The Time is Now’ event was truly amazing - it turned into the biggest ever mass lobby of Parliament. 380 MPs arrived to speak with groups on the day and heard about the need for urgent action on the natural environment and climate change.
Today, the need for urgent action continues – and who could ever have imagined the very different circumstances we find ourselves in.
Therefore, on June 30th The Wildlife Trusts are joining a ‘virtual’ mass lobby on the 30th June to help secure a ‘green recovery’ as we build back from the current health crisis.
How you can help
MPs are being asked to save 45 minutes in their diary to hold a Zoom meeting with their constituents and you can join that call. Everything you need to know including a template to contact your MP and further information is here. Please then help us spread the word to family and friends too - we don’t have long!
Why is this happening now?
We can either choose to tackle climate change and nature’s decline as we rebuild a resilient economy that benefits everyone in society or we can let the moment for change pass us by.
We need to tell politicians that #TheTimeIsNow to put a healthy, greener, fairer future at the heart of plans to rebuild a strong economy.
Jo Smith, Chief Executive for Derbyshire Wildlife Trust added; “We don’t want to our environment to yet again take a back seat as the country drives to get its economy back on track – we are at another crucial turning point. We are expecting the Government to announce more plans soon on investment to reboot the economy and we want to ensure that new investment is directed towards nature recovery projects and green infrastructure. It’s time for the Government to finally deliver on its environmental promises and we ask people to please join us in this call to demand greener action.” Please contact your MP and join us on 30th – follow this link here to sign up and for more information.
