If you’re passionate about wildlife and would love to write and sing a note or two about wildlife, Derbyshire’s Wildside Festival wants to hear from you. The places where we live are becoming less wild, and countless species are at risk of vanishing before our eyes. We need to put nature into recovery. Your musical talents are exactly what Derbyshire Wildlife Trust needs to give nature a beautiful, wild song to bellow across the county and beyond. As the winner of the Beautiful Wild Noise competition your song could be the change that nature needs, for a wilder future and a wilder Derbyshire.

We are looking for a song...

We are looking for bands, musicians, singers and songwriters from all walks of life to enter the competition, and to pen a song about the wildlife we’re in danger of losing. The winning song, as voted for by the public, will spearhead the Wilder Future Campaign, and be played to hundreds of passionate spectators at Derbyshire Wildlife Trusts’ Wildside Festival in June. Are you up for the challenge? As well as performing their eco-anthem at this summer’s wildest festival the winning band or individual will have their work promoted to more than 25,000 social media followers, across multiple platforms. Your words and melody could inspire the change that our county’s wildlife so desperately needs.

How to enter

Entries will be welcomed from songwriters, solo musicians and bands, and compositions as simple, complex or abstract as you wish. All that is asked is that songs explore UK wildlife and landscapes, and evoke the emotions that nature can make us feel; inspired, relaxed or filled with joy. Derbyshire Wildlife Trust would also like entries to reveal a positive vision for a wilder future that we can all enjoy. Are you feeling inspired yet? Great!

Step One:

Gather your friends and fellow musicians, or pick up a pen and begin to write by yourself. Compose a song that reminds us just how marvelous our wild landscape truly is.

Step Two:

Record your song, whether that’s on your phone or computer, or in a home studio. Videos are fine, as long as your song is audible and recorded in a digital format.

Step Three:

Send your song to us, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, by March 31^st 2019. Files can be sent via email or the WeTransfer app. Send your songs to jroper@derbyshirewt.co.uk and be sure to include:

Your name and contact details

The name of your band or solo act

The song’s title

A description of your song and inspiration in no more than 100 words

Step Four

Your song will be added to the Wildside Festival website, promote entries and open up voting to the public. The winning song will be announced on May 10^th.

This competition is a great opportunity for musicians and songwriters, as well as being an amazing platform for our wildlife. Our wild landscapes and their inhabitants need our help more than ever; help Derbyshire Wildlife Trust to inspire that change.
