Anne’s line, “Out of the gloom the ghostly shape of a barn owl floated onto his outstretched arm” has now been carved onto the open book sculpture which will make up part of the brand new sculpture trail around Carsington Water, set to be unveiled this spring.

Anne said, “I am so excited – I cannot wait to take my grandchildren to Carsington to see the new trail – they love Carsington Water but now it is even more special!”

Diane Gould, project manager at Derbyshire Wildlife Trust said, “It was so moving when we met with Anne to see her line etched into the book. As the words were being carved Anne revealed the line is an ode to her late husband. It is so special that these words are now a permanent feature of the trail which can be enjoyed by so many people.”

Anne also won a workshop with Sian Tower, writer in residence at the Wildlife Discover Room. Sian helped judge the competition.

The new sculpture trail will be unveiled in spring and has been made possible thanks to a grant worth more than £20,000 from the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund through the Derbyshire Environmental Trust; a fund which helps to build communities and transform lives through awarding grants to community and environmental projects. The project was in partnership with Seven Trent who own Carsington Water.
