Supported through the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), the fascinating project to wake up the Whistlestop will include bringing back the vibrant and exciting community atmosphere the building once had. This will be done with a fully immersive installation in one of the Whistlestop’s rooms that will allow visitors to interact with, celebrate and explore the local cultural history. The Trust will also be looking at collecting memorabilia and interesting facts about the history of the railway and the building itself and hope to include a suspended G-model railway which will run around the building for visitors to enjoy.

Ellen Fineran, project manager at the Trust said, “We are delighted that HLF has chosen to support this fabulous project, thanks to National Lottery players. It’s a real opportunity for the Trust to ensure the Whistlestop Discovery Centre can be enjoyed for years to come and become a window to Matlock Bath and Derbyshire Dales fascinating history.

“We are now able to work on a full restoration and ensure the sustainable use of this beautiful and iconic building. It’s going to be a key part of Matlock Bath’s tourist season, celebrating the rich heritage of the area and inspiring more people to love Derbyshire as much as we do.”

Back in May your amazing donations helped the Trust raise over £10,000 through a crowdfunder which they have put towards the match funding for their bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
