Latest news from Carr Vale is that the wader fest of the past few days has died away. On 31st July Canada Geese increased to 82 and Gadwall to 42, waders included 94 Lapwings, Green Sandpiper, three Common Sandpipers, three Snipe and the juvenile Water Rail at the southern end of Meadow Flash was seen again. The best of the rest included a a covey of ten Red-legged Partridges (probably a brood as far too early for released birds), Common Tern, 300 Black-headed Gulls, a Peregrine, Lesser Whitethroat and Garden Warbler. On 1st August Canada Geese increased to 95, 42 Gadwall, juvenile Little Egret, juvenile Water Rail, Green Sandpiper (left north at 1035), Common Sandpiper, three Snipe and Lesser Whitethroat. The 2nd was fairly quiet too with 95 Canada Geese, 41 Gadwall, three Teal new in, 79 Mallard, Little Egret, calling Water Rail, Common Sandpiper, four Snipe, 13 Stock Doves, Peregrine and a flock of 12 Mistle Thrush.
