Our run of good form continued over the last couple of days with a very productive day on Monday 10th. Five skeins of Pink-footed Geese totalling 620 birds flew east during the morning (c70 at 0915 and c550 at 1100, but then at 1400 c500 flew west over Bolsover so clearly they are a tad confused), 90 Wigeon, 76 Teal, 18 Gadwall, two Goosander (males), six Water Rails, Barn Owl (morning and dusk), Peregrine, four Willow Tits, Marsh Tit, Cetti's Warbler and four Chiffchaffs. On 11th a female Goldeneye was a good find as it is just the second of the year but more interesting was a colour ringed adult Mediterranean Gull. Adults are rare here and colour ringed birds even rarer. The bird is sporting a dark green ring with four white letters (ASS?) the fourth letter being obscured by a blade of grass---grrrr! Still there's enough info there to say the bird is from Germany and I have contacted the relevant body to see if the information I have is sufficient for a bit more information to be gleaned. Watch this space. Also today 90 Wigeon, 73 Teal, a pair of Goosander, two Peregrines, two Chiffchaffs and 100 Linnets plus Green and Great-spotted Woodpecker, Kingfisher, two Common Gulls and 15 Reed Buntings on the mound table.
