End of month update for Carr Vale. Remains pretty quiet with a lone Pink-footed Goose seen on 30th, 132 Wigeon on 31st, 27 Gadwall and 61 Teal on 26th, male Shoveler on 29th, Goosander daily between 27th and 30th with a maximum of six (south) on 29th, 11 Red-legged Partridge on 28th, Water Rail heard on 27th, 27 Moorhens (highest count of the winter) on 26th with 24 still on 30th, 20 Coot (highest count of the winter) on 31st, 110 Lapwings on 26th and 28th, 29 Snipe on 26th, Finnish ringed Black-headed Gull (white ring CPXT) seen on 27th and 30th, 1500 Wood Pigeons on 30th, Barn Owl on 28th, Peregrine on 26th and 30th, up to four Willow Tits daily, Marsh Tit still on 31st, a Chiffchaff last seen on 26th, nine Bullfinches on 26th and 30th, six Redpoll on 29th, a Siskin on 27th and 17 Reed Buntings on the mound bird table on 31st. February started reasonably well given that 95% of the water was iced over with c80 Pink-footed Geese flying west, a male Shoveler back or new in, a female Goosander south, four Golden Plover east and the Marsh Tit still present.
