Beginning of February update but first a late January record of Barn Owl on 31st January. Ponds remained mainly frozen still on 4th with really just the middle flash now open. Today (4th) after an absence of another nine days the Siberian Chiffchaff put in a fresh appearance on the embankment along with two nominate Chiffchaffs that had not been seen since 26th. (I suspect that they have spent the intervening time in the sewage works to which we have no access). Also today 52 Teal, juvenile male Peregrine, Marsh Tit still and 19 Stock Doves. On 1st 80 Pink-footed Geese west at 0940, 26 Gadwall, male Shoveler, female Goosander south, 120 Lapwing and four Golden Plover east. On 2nd 134 Wigeon, 18 Cormorant on the tiny open bit of water, two Tawny Owls, 1000 Wood Pigeon, juvenile male Peregrine and 60 Linnets. On 3rd just Peregrine, Marsh Tit and 41 Goldfinch into roost.
