The purple patch continued during early May with on 4th the long-staying regulars all still present (i.e. Pink-footed Geese, injured drake Wigeon, still two drake Teal, pair of Oystercatchers, pair of Common Tern, up to 50 Herring Gulls and up to 11 Great Black-backed Gulls and a Snipe although Pochard were last seen on 3rd). More notable species included on 2nd an Osprey was present between 1135 and 1155 when it flew north-east, a Common Sandpiper was still present, a first summer Common Gull was seen and three more Whitethroat territories were found (now 12). On 3rd three Whimbrel at 0710 only, a total of 14 Arctic Terns flew north east in groups of ten (0735), three (0850-0905) and one (1050), three first summer Common Gulls were seen and 120 Swallows. On 4th a total of five Arctic Terns flew north-east (one at 0645, one at 0715 and three at 0905) and an immature female Peregrine was seen. Bird of the day on 5th was a Green Sandpiper, not even a year tick but the first May record since 2008, also a first summer Common Gull.
