Derbyshire Wildlife Trust’s free Community Day of Action event returns for its second year with a packed programme of nature-inspired activities on Saturday 21st September in Buxton.
Last year, the event attracted over 300 people. This year’s line up again includes activities for all ages and has been set up thanks to funding from Nestlé Waters. The Get Better with Nature event has been designed to involve people and groups from across the community, to help everyone enjoy and make the most of local nature and wild places.
Derbyshire Wildlife Trust project lead for Get Better with Nature, Diane Gould said “Thanks to funding from Nestlé Waters, we’ve got a great programme lined up. Join us for den building and bug hunting, learn about bumblebees or identify different bat species on an evening guided walk. All details can be found on the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust’s website. Most activities are drop in but some do require booking. We had so many positive comments following last year’s event so we really look forward to welcoming people to another bumper-packed day!”

Activities at Lightwood reserve
· Family Forest School 10-11.30am – Drop in for forest school fun with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust’s qualified leader, take part in crafts, den building and more
· Bug Hunt 12-2pm – Drop in and join us for bug hunting around Lightwood to see what creatures call it home
· Bee Safari 2.30-3.30pm - Lead by the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, go on safari and discover more about our fascinating bumblebees. Must be booked, 15 free places available on EventbriteRegister here
· Bat Walk 8-9.30pm - A great opportunity to discover more about the nocturnal residents of Lightwood, using bat detectors to track them down and find out how to tell them apart. Must be booked, 20 free places available Register here
· The Buxton based ‘Stone and Water’ artists group will be on hand to create weird and wonderful creatures at Poole’s Cavern. Hear them explain how to create animation and film using a mobile. Drop in between 12-4pm
