I finally managed to get on the reserve today after a month of extensive flooding with continuously high water levels. The debris collected at various points was evidence of the flows across the causeways at peak flood and perhaps this had affected the number of birds collecting at this stage. The first Goldeneye were still there though, and hopefully they will increase in number, as they did last year. Lots and lots of Blackbirds! Bird counts were Mallard 60, Tufted Duck 49, Teal 15, Gadwall 16, Shoveller 9, Wigeon 68, Pochard 1, Goldeneye 4, Coot 16, GC Grebe 3, Grey Heron 5, Mute Swan 3, Cormorant 23, Black-headed Gull 31, Herring Gull 2, Buzzard 1, Carrion Crow 3, Chaffinch 1, Blackbird 22, Fieldfare 4, Snipe 3, Magpie 3.
