Derbyshire Wildlife Trust offers accredited courses to next environmental leaders

Derbyshire Wildlife Trust is inspiring the next wave of environmental leaders and mentors after becoming an accredited training centre for six courses aimed at businesses, the education sector and individuals looking to develop their careers.

The Trust, based in Middleton, Derbyshire with learning spaces at Carsington Water and Matlock Bath Railway Station, has become an accredited environmental education centre with courses awarded through City and Guilds and AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group.

Recognising the importance of businesses understanding the subject of climate change, net zero, sustainability and the environment in relation to their practices, the Trust will deliver the City and Guilds Level 2 Award in Sustainability and the Green Environment to learners who want to work within sustainability or who have been given responsibility for sustainability within their organisations.

The Trust will also be offering City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Environmental Conservation which is ideal for individual’s professional development or those preparing for further learning.

Derbyshire Wildlife Trust’s trainers have been delivering Forest School programmes to children in Derbyshire from schools, nurseries, youth and community groups for many years. Observing the growing need to promote an understanding of the natural world to young people has led the organisation to become accredited to provide several new courses aimed at teachers, and leaders in educational settings, such as playgroups.

Qualifications in Connection in the Early Years (Level 1), Leader of Outdoor Learning (Level 2), Forest School Assistant (Level 2), and Forest School Leader (Level 3) will provide the skills and confidence to facilitate nature-based outdoor learning and play.

Diane Gould, Wilder Engagement Team Leader at Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, said: “Connecting people to nature is at the very heart of all the work carried out by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust’s Wilder Engagement Team and this is reflected in all our training courses.

“We are thrilled to have become accredited to offer more courses through our existing learning spaces and transfer more skills. The aim is to enable our local businesses, education providers and people wanting to develop their careers in this direction, to do more, and help others do more, to help nature’s recovery and get more space for nature ultimately.”

“We look forward to working with our future leaders and mentors in the coming months to achieve their certificates, awards and diplomas.”
