Meet our partner organisations and community projects
As the Derwent Connections project continues to grow, we recognise that we would not be able to achieve our vision to make space for both nature and water without the support of the local communities in the Derwent Catchment area. This is why we are striking up new relationships with local groups throughout the Derwent to tackle local flooding. With the help and support of local communities we can make space for nature and water throughout the Derwent catchment alleviating the risks of flooding. Below is our ever-growing list of community groups and projects that we are partnering with. Along with upcoming events for you to get involved.
Climate Pathfinders Youth Forum - High Peak and Derbyshire Dales
The Climate Pathfinders Youth Forum is a Derbyshire Dales and High Peak based group of young climate advocates, making a positive mark within local climate circles. The group has created a platform for young people with a passion for the environment to come together and drive action for positive change. Together they aim to take local actions to improve the environment, campaign for a future they want to be a part of, and help spread the pro-environment word. Over the course of the Derwent Connections Project the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust want to support the Climate Pathfinders in taking local environment actions. This partnership will see further work being done to reduce local flood risks and create a space for nature throughout the Derwent catchment.

Transition Buxton
Transition Buxton, is a community group part of the Transition community. The idea of the transition community is to allow people to work together on projects that will benefit the community with a focus on natural resources and climate change.
During the Derwent Connections project we will be partnering with Transition Buxton, to provide public engagement for Natural Flood Management measures in the region. So far we have supported Transition Buxton at their Buxton wild weeks, working with local junior schools.
Ambergate Wireworks
The Ambergate wireworks are a community art group who create 3D wire drawings utilising wire manufactured in Ambergate wireworks. The Derwent River has a rich history interconnected with water-power and industry. Working with the Ambergate Wireworks we are keen to draw out the connection between the Derwent River and its community history.
Working in partnership with the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust the group are using immersive wirework instillations to create enviromental awareness and community cohesion programmes into the local area. Together the Ambergate Wireworks and Derbyshire Wildlife Trust aim to create artwork highlighting plants and animals that play an essential role within natural flood protection within the Derwent Valley.

Tideswell and District Environment Group
The Tideswell and District Environment Group are a community dedicated to improving the local and global environment. They aim to achieve this goal by working together on environmental projects to make a difference in their community.
We originally partnered with the Tideswell and District Environment Group during our first wave of tree planting in March 2022 supporting their work on the Queen's Jubilee Tree Planting event. Moving forward we plan to continue our partnership with the group, working on natural flood management measures throughout the summer and a secondary tree planting event later in November 2022.
Keep an eye out on our events pages for opportunities to work more on developing natural flood management measures over the coming months.
